The Meta Rose: Shared Resonance

Shared Resonance develops Meta Rose’s exploration of mixed and ambivalent emotion through a specific condition: the installation requires more than one person to participate. Connection between people is built into the work’s operation. Living rose flowers act as haptic interfaces, while conductive touch links the participants to a shared system of sound, moving image and light.

The focus shifts towards the relationship through which an experience becomes possible. Park asks how an encounter with emotional contradiction changes when its sensory expression depends on another person’s presence and contact. The rose remains both a physical material and a recurring figure for feelings that can contain opposing qualities at once.

Suspended roses form part of an open circuit. Two or more participants connect through the roses, water and hand-to-hand contact to activate the installation. The bodily connection is consequential: it establishes the conductive relationship on which the audio-visual response depends. Participation becomes a shared physical action, rather than a sequence of individual commands.

The resulting sound, visuals and light belong to the encounter as a whole. This relational structure gives form to the project’s interest in 양가감정: mixed feeling is approached through a sensory situation in which difference and connection can remain present together. The work foregrounds the conditions of participation—who is connected, and how—within the experience itself.

Developed after The Meta Kibun Project (2025), Shared Resonance extends the inquiry into touch and affect towards interpersonal dependence. Its collective circuit distinguishes this chapter’s interaction from the earlier project’s focus on culturally situated feeling.
