The Meta Kibun Project

The Meta Kibun Project extends Meta Rose through kibun (기분), a Korean term encompassing mood, feeling and atmosphere. Rather than choosing from a fixed list of emotions, participants begin by attending to how they feel that day.

Participants compose a colour term using one of the project’s Korean emotive suffixes, or invent a suffix in a language of their choice. They then enter an installation of living roses, water, sound and three-screen moving image. Different roses activate responses drawn from sixteen layered audio-visual effects; touching the water changes colour and image.

Developed as Park’s 2025 creative practice-based Honours research at RMIT University, the study conducted fifteen semi-structured, one-to-one interviews and collected sixteen survey responses across a two-day exhibition. Within this exhibition, participants commonly described touch as deepening bodily and personal engagement, while colour choice and emotive language prompted reflection on feelings that were layered, shifting and difficult to articulate.

The research does not establish universal correspondences between colour and emotion. It treats each account as situated evidence, meaningful within the conditions of an encounter but resistant to generalisation.
