Meta Rose: Origin
Where the rose became image, interface and emotional system.
Project
The first chapter of an evolving artistic world.
Meta Rose: Origin initiated Minnie Park’s long-term Meta Rose body of work. Bringing together 3D moving image and original sound, an artist digital twin, a multiplayer Unreal Engine environment and a tactile rose installation, it established the rose and the colour pink as more than motifs: both became structures for working through emotion, contradiction and affective energy.
The 2024 exhibitions presented different configurations of the work. On 29 May, the presentation at Seventh Gallery focused on the rose installation. On 7 June, the exhibition at RMIT University’s Blackbox presented the full work, including the rose installation and interactive game.
A row of living roses was arranged across a table like a tactile keyboard. Each flower triggered a distinct sound and real-time visual response, allowing visitors to compose shifting audio-visual states through touch, duration and combination.
Pink and grey, petals and thorns, pleasure and pain formed a paired system across image and sound. The work approached mixed emotion through coexistence: beauty could contain difficulty without being cancelled by it. Origin established a visual and interactive vocabulary that later chapters would extend into culturally situated, relational and data-informed forms.
